Job Description

A microbiologist is a professional who specializes in the study and analysis of microorganisms, which include bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microscopic life forms. Microbiologists play a crucial role in various fields, including healthcare, agriculture, biotechnology, and environmental science, where their research and expertise contribute to scientific advancements and public health. Specific job requirements may vary depending on the sector and organization.

Qualification & Experience:
  • Education: A Ph.D. or master's degree in a related field with more than 5 years of experience.
  • Laboratory Skills: Expertise to isolate, cultivate, maintain microbial cultures, perform microscopic examinations and microbial identifications, and analyze microbial growth, metabolism, and gene expression.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills for interpreting complex data and drawing conclusions.
  • Attention to Detail: Precision and attention to detail to ensure accurate results in experiments.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot issues that arise during experiments and research.
  • Communication: Effective communication skills for presenting research findings and collaborating with colleagues.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in using software for data analysis and research documentation.
  • Teamwork: Collaboration with other scientists, researchers, and professionals in interdisciplinary projects.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of regulatory and safety standards, especially in clinical and industrial settings.
  • Curiosity: A strong interest in microbiology and a desire to explore the unknown aspects of microorganisms.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Scope of work includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Research and Analysis: Conduct research to study the characteristics, behavior, and growth of microorganisms.
  • Sample Collection: Collect samples from various sources, such as soil, water, food, or human/animal tissues, for laboratory analysis.
  • Laboratory Work: Perform laboratory experiments and tests to identify, isolate, and study microorganisms using various techniques and equipment.
  • Microbial Identification: Identify and classify microorganisms based on their genetic, morphological, and biochemical features.
  • Disease Detection: Investigate the role of microorganisms in causing diseases and develop strategies for disease prevention and control.
  • Quality Control: Ensure product quality and safety through microbial testing.
  • Research and Development: Contribute to the development of vaccines, antibiotics, and other medical or industrial products.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze and interpret research data, and prepare reports, research papers, and presentations.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment and instruments to ensure accuracy in experiments.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols to prevent contamination and ensure the safe handling of hazardous microorganisms.

  • Be a good listener and have an open mind to suggestions and feedback from peers, team members and seniors.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ensure no team conflict and be a part or contribute any conflict.
  • Contribute ideas and feedback in a concise and productive way.
  • Assist manager with any projects or initiatives as requested.
  • Participate in projects, committees or tasks forces as assigned by departmental supervisor.
Additional Responsibilities:

This includes but not limited to the following:

  • Generally aware of best practices and business/industry trends in microbiology.
  • Participate in VC/audio calls along with your manager and record the minutes as required.
